More or less on time we took off to San Francisco. The Swiss Arlines kept us well entertained on this 11 hour flight with a lot of food, ice cream, wine and good movies.

After 2 long hours in the passport-control-line we were finally allowed to enter the USA. Finding our Hotel was pretty easy, finding a room for us was harder: the first room we got wasn’t cleaned, the second one was boiling hot – the heating was broken. After a short look Nick, the mechanic, luckily managed to turn the heating off.

On foot, with the famous cable car and with a Tandem we explored San Francisco in the last days. With hundreds of other tourists we crossed the beautiful Golden Gate Bridge on two wheels. After a short rest in Sausalito we took the ferry back to the other side. To our benefit the few tandems had a special place on the ferry and we could get off it quite quickly. The approx. 879 normal bikes were stacked and stuffed next to each other.

For Alcatraz we managed to get tickets for sunday. We were really lucky, because some tours are fully booked months ahead!

In the cell-block we took the Audioguide where guards and inmates talked about their stay on this legendary island.

Meanwhile we left San Francisco Downtown. Our container is a few days delayed and we decided to stay in a lovely Airbnb in Oakland. Unexpectedly we really like Oakland with its wall paintings, payable restaurants and bars and without the thousands of tourists! So close to this world famous city and yet so unknown.

As mentioned above our container is delayed due to stormy weather on the east coast some weeks ago. Clearing formalities and unloading will take also time but we hope to get our van by the end of the week. Fingers crossed!
