We stayed a bit longer in Bend than planned, because the weather forecast for this week was basically only rain. When we started heading to Portland City the clouds grew bigger and the rain was here to stay. We landed in Sandy at the Sandy Ridge Bike Trailhead and Nick took the chance to ride his bike. It rained and rained and rained, so we decided to stay right there for the night.
With totally wet bike-equippement and clothing in the trunk we visited Portland. The city welcomed us with extremely many construction zones and homeless people. But we enjoyed the walk at the waterfront anyway.
First attempts to dry our stuff were in Fort Stevens (but it rained on and on and on…). The beach walk – or rather beach drive – was topped by a wrack, baby furr seal and eagles.
To avoid more rain we adapted and went to the great Columbia River Maritime Museum in beautiful little Astoria. The exhibition is simply mind blowing! A great way to stay dry.
When travelling this long one has to expect a week of rain. Maybe you can imagine the smells in our car 🙂 But now summer starts!
