Everyone who visited Vancouver before, knows Granville Island. Our Highway was passing it by anyways, so we stopped for the market. We visited Vancouver several times before, so we directly took the road to the Bike-Mekka Wisthler.
The Bikepark just opened partly for season and I enjoyed riding on these trails again. It was a fun ride re-exploring everything. I even found the time to make some selfies.
In our roof box we brought an inflatable canoe with us and so we decided to see Whistler from a new perspective. Gently we paddled down Alta Lake, through the „river of golden dreams“ to Green Lake.
High up a lot of snow was still covering the mountain tops. Not only the upper biketrails were still closed but also the bears came down to look for food. When we drove to the Olympic Area we saw 6 bears in 10km!
Later on it got uncomfortable. We just finished cooking, were ready to eat, when a bear showed up. His nose high up in the air he came closer and started to cercle around us. We were prepared to jump into the van, but luckily the bear went away.
On sunday we left Whistler, because we were invited at our friends place on Vancouver Island. It seamed we had enough time, so we stopped at the Britannia Bay Mine and enjoyed the tour. With a little train we drove some meters into the mountains on a little train and saw live demonstration of some tools. In the end we could try to wash some gold, but we were fairly successful 😉
Later on the Highway 99 to Horseshoe Bay traffic stood still because a vehicle caught fire. Of corse the ferry didn’t wait for us and the next one was 50 minutes delayed. At 8pm we finally arrived in Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island. After a tour around the house we enjoyed a fantastic meal. A lot of things changed in the past 8 years since we visited the last time, but we still loved it! Thank you so much Stephanie and Mike!
