After a stormy night at Doran Beach we visited the lighthouse at Point Area. The wind on the balcony wasn’t easy to handle and made it hard even to go around the tower.
We hoped to find a less windy spot to stay the night. A lonesome Elk made us slow down on the highway and showed us a hidden way. 30 minutes of rocky and steep roads later we found a beautiful spot down at the beach. The traffic on the gravel road was already a sign: we wouldn’t be alone there. But the place was big enough and everyone had his private little paradise.
At a short ride with my bike I met some more elk and the first bear! Both ran quickly into the bushes.
The next days we visited rather disappointing cities (Eureka) and did a bad Bikeride on a beautiful coastal trail (said the lady from the visiter center) and visited more lighthouses.
Luckily the National Forests were not far, so we had at least good places to stay.
Meantime a started longing for snow. At Crater Lake (1800 meter over sea level) the employees were busy to plow a 6 meter high piles of snow. On the already plowed track we took a little bike ride.
In the afternoon we could again wear shorts. And the fountain of the 70 year old wooden pipeline was tempting.
Next on our list was Bend. The little town in Oregon is packed with attractions. Next to Bike-shops exist countless breweries and coffee roasters flowes the river with a canoe passage and a surfing wave. Mt. Bachelor with its Ski area is only minutes away. Local bike-shop-owner John showed me between two meetings some cool trails. Thanks John!
Luckily we heard of the 10 year party of a local brewery. We enjoyed free concerts (also a short one of De La Soul!) and a gigantic jenga play.
