On the evening of Canaday we said goodbye to all the gold panners and headed south on the Klondike Highway. The spot on the lake was already wonderful in the evening, if we ignore the mosquitoes. But in the morning i get out of the van and can’t believe my eyes: a male moose was swimming by and we could observe it grasing.

Next stopp is yukon’s main city Whitehorse. We are greeted by a porcupine that is hurrying over the highway.

We use this rainy day for some essentials like groceries and our search for new tires. Unfortunately we had to find out, that the dimension of our tires is not at all common in northern america. If the size fits, the load index is too low for our heavy van and ordering takes up to one week. After five tire shops we count on the next big city and hope to find tires there.

Whitehorse lies on the Yukon and here too we can visit a steamboat. We visited two others before, but the „Klondike“ exhibition was on a whole new level: the whole ship was equipped and decorated and looked just like it would take off every minute.

After a little detour to Atlin we were back on the Highway and stopped in Watson Lake. Here we visit the unique signpost forest, which was started by a homesick soldier in WWII. Until to day about 80’000 signs from all over the world are here to find, many from switzerland. After a short look in our van we grab a lid of a box and do our selfs a sign.

After this little do-it-yourself-session we head on on the Alaska Highway, there are still many kilometers ahead.
