In every harbor, every bay – Newfoundland has lighthouses just about everywhere! Little, discrete towers on a coastal rock or big towers in red and white with several buildings around it on a hill. Many of the big ones are museums and we visit some of them and learn about the importance, the mechanical lightning system and the life of a light keeper.

Besides of lighthouses the landscape is still magnificent. We arrive in Terra Nova National Park where we start a little hike, when it just starts to rain. Weather gets better at our second hike the next day, where we can enjoy the view over the area.

In Gros Morne National Park we shorten our hike to the Tablelands, because it rains again – typically Newfoundland. At least partly dry we can enjoy a boat tour on the 16 km long Western Brook Pond with it’s massive cliffs and waterfalls.

After 14 days on the island we explore the last part for us, the area on the southwestern coast. Once again we are so happy to be here. The „granite coast“ is just unbelievably beautiful and we can’t stop taking pictures. We don’t really wanna leave, but the ferry awaits…

Another night on a ferry awaits and again we didn’t book a cabin. At midnight we leave for Nova Scotia. On the ferry again many people lie between the seats but this time we just can’t get to sleep because of all the snoring around us. After a very short night we arrive at 7am in North Sidney and we know for sure: next time we take a cabin.
