Because the rental car was even cheeper than a rental bike, we decided to keep it for the weekend and drive down to Los Angeles.
After a short stroll on the famous Walk of Fame we saw Hollywoods real side. We enjoyed thousands of tourists and couldn’t wait to take pictures with the stars – or something like it…
We booked a Studio Tour at Warner Brothers. Our totally motivated tour guide Kim showed us the shooting places of many famous movies and tv dramas like Gilmore Girls, Big Bang Theorie, Friends, Laethal Weapon, Harry Potter or Batman. Nerd alerd number what? As if we in Magglingen would have known these shows.
Anyway, I learnd about some cool facts. It is actually possible to pick all the leaves off a tree for one shoot and to put them all up on the branches for another! In huge warehouses thousands of props wait for their big moment on screen. In an other hall we could see the batmobiles. The studios have their own wood and metal shops and even their own gas station. The last part of the tour was an interactive exhibition where you can learn a lot about movie making and even act a scene in the original Friends-setting.
For a beautiful sundown we drove up Griffith Park where you have a fantastic view over LA. An unexpected chaos of cars welcomed us on top, but luckily we found a place where we could park our car. To escape all the tourists we climed up to the top of Mount Hollywood where we finally could enjoy the sunset.
On Sunday the California Science Center with the real space shuttle Endeavour was on our list. And in the evening we visited a little Antilope Poppy State Park near Lancaster (where our hotel was). The amazingly bright flowers where the perfect background for several hobby-photographers.
Our little Nissan brought us back to Oakland safely where we gave it back now after over 2000 km.
On tuesday we were finally able to pick up our Van! “Emma” travelled save over the seas and is ready now for our big roadtrip.
